Easter is right around the corner — and here in Saratoga Springs, that means one thing: it's time to fill your home and garden with color.

Easter plants

Easter plants are here at Sunnyside Gardens in Saratoga Springs, New York! Whether you're searching for a classic Easter lily, a cheerful pot of tulips for a gift, or something beautifully fragrant to welcome the season — we have everything you need.

Here's a look at what's blooming this Easter season, plus a few tips to keep each one happy long after the holiday.

🌼 Easter Lilies — The Classic for a Reason

No plant says Easter quite like the lily. Pure white, beautifully fragrant, and full of meaning — Easter lilies have been a spring tradition for generations, and we love having them in the greenhouse every year.

Care tips: Keep your lily in a bright spot away from direct sun and drafts. Cool room temperatures help the blooms last longer — sometimes up to two weeks. One pro tip: remove the yellow stamens from the center of each flower before they open. It keeps the petals cleaner and extends the bloom.

After Easter, Easter lilies can actually be planted outdoors in our upstate New York climate. They'll come back year after year as a perennial — a little living memory of the holiday.

💜 Hyacinths — Spring's Most Fragrant Arrival

If you've ever walked into a room and immediately stopped to ask, "what is that smell?" — it was probably a hyacinth. These dense, jewel-colored blooms are having a real moment right now, and we completely understand why.

Hyacinths come in deep purple, soft pink, white, and blue, and a single pot can fill an entire room with fragrance. They make incredible gifts and look stunning on a kitchen windowsill or Easter table centerpiece.

Care tips: Hyacinths love bright, indirect light and cool temperatures. Keep them away from heat vents and water sparingly at the base — not over the bulb. Once they finish blooming, plant the bulb outside and enjoy the show again next spring.

🌷 Tulips — Living Color for the Season

Tulips are one of those plants that just make people happy. Cheerful, colorful, and unmistakably spring — a potted tulip is one of the most classic Easter gifts you can give.

Here in the Capital Region, we're lucky to have the Albany Tulip Festival drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors every spring, so tulip love runs deep in this part of New York. Bring some of that joy home.

Care tips: Potted tulips prefer cool temperatures and bright light. They actually keep growing after you bring them home — so don't be surprised if they get a little taller! Use cold water when watering, keep them away from heat, and plant the bulbs outside after the holiday for blooms next year.

🌸 Orchids — Elegant & Long-Lasting

If you're looking for something a little more elevated — maybe a hostess gift, an Easter table centerpiece, or just a treat for yourself — orchids are a beautiful choice. They're sophisticated without being fussy, and with basic care they'll bloom for weeks.

We've recently received fresh orchid shipments at Sunnyside, and they are gorgeous right now.

Care tips: Orchids want bright, indirect light and just a few ice cubes of water once a week — seriously, that's it. Keep them away from drafts and direct sun, and they'll reward you with weeks of blooms.

🌼 Daffodils — The Symbol of New Beginnings

Bright yellow, cheerful, and one of the very first signs that winter is truly behind us — daffodils are pure spring joy. They're also incredibly easy to care for and nearly impossible to kill, which makes them a great pick for gardeners of any experience level.

Care tips: Keep potted daffodils in a cool, bright spot and water moderately. After blooming, plant them in the garden and they'll naturalize over time — meaning more blooms every spring with zero extra work from you.

🌿 Mums, Azaleas & Beyond

Easter week at Sunnyside always brings a wonderful mix of seasonal color beyond the classics. Mums add bold pops of yellow, rust, and white. Azaleas bring lush, full blooms in pink and red. And our houseplant section is stocked with everything from snake plants to monsteras if you want something green and lasting.

Whatever you're looking for, stop in and our team will help you find the perfect plant for your home, your table, or as a gift for someone you love.
